Hi Oliver, I believe the master should not be a SPOF : Accumulo can continue running without it. However, if the master is down for too long : - tablets will become unbalanced ; - tablets will not be reassigned automatically if tservers are killed while the master is down.
In order to overcome this, you might want to configure more than one master and/or have a look at the master.tablet.balancer property and the HostRegexTableLoadBalancer class.
