we extended Ambari with some components of our own, using the existing
hadoop/hortonworks puppet code as an example - all pure Ambari .. we don’t use
a puppet master or anything like that … we’d rather not throw it all away at
this point .. but we would like to move up to Ambari 1.6 … so can puppet/python
component installers co-exist ? Or do we have to re-write all of our puppet
code now in Python?

Using puppet with a newer Ambari installation is definitely possible but there
are a lot of things you no longer need it for.

In what capacity are you wishing to still use puppet and is this your own
installation of puppet (i.e., do you have a puppetmaster that you control)?

Cheers.

I guess as a workaround, you could further customise your stack by 1st
installing a puppet agent using ( bash / python ) and then you could use this
puppet to do the rest.

resending this …

Q: we are on 1.2.4 and would like to upgrade to 1.6.1, but we have added some
of our own components to the stack and would like to continue using puppet - is
this possible?

thanks

given the architecture was supposed to be pluggable, can we still continue to
use puppet with versions > 1.5 ?

You are correct, it's not used anymore. IIRC, it has been removed with version
1.5.
