"Did you use a different VM when running Ivy-1.4 and Ivy-2.0 ?"
More than likely.
I have now gone through this with a fine tooth comb and the problem is the
same in Ivy 1 and 2. It is not so slow if you use httpClient but still
awfully slow.
The problem most likely revolves arounds this bug
http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=5092063
which is "the creation of a socket using new Socket("ip-address", port)
seems to be extremely slow"
and the bug turns out to be caused by reverse DNS lookups on a
misconfigured DNS setup, in my case I have one DNS that does not exist in a
list of DNS's set up via DHCP. This probably explains why it does not work
for me over a WAN but does over a LAN (different DHCP servers depending on
location).
I've tried all the work arounds, to no avail as yet, but it's a combination
of a JVM bug and a wrongly configured DNS, nothing to do with Ivy.
