GitHub user ianmcook edited a comment on the discussion: Proposal: ADBC file drivers with pluggable storage
Claude and I took a stab at a new proposal that reconciles this with @CurtHagenlocher's proposal: https://github.com/ianmcook/adbc-data-assets The gist is: This keeps many of Curt's ideas, but instead of reusing the "driver" abstraction, it introduces a new "data asset" abstraction which I think composes much better. A data asset would be described in a TOML file, which would be much like a driver manifest, but it would be called an "asset descriptor." This adds two new types of shared libraries: - "adapters" (for formats) - "providers" (for storage systems) each with its own TOML manifest format. These could presumably live in our public CDN and be installed with dbc just like drivers.
