2) Any recent industrial Avro users/examples/case studies on this list?
I have been prototyping using it to allow distributed processes that
work on a common dataset to push back information on status of various
jobs, summary stats etc, to a central hub that collates in real time
to Mysql/Postgres - on this we will do a "track my dataset operations"
webapp. I tested throughput and avro (http transport) was pushing
2000 messages per second on each of the 10 concurrent clients,
comparable to around 700/client/sec on a vanilla RESTful HTTP based
approach (Simple HttpServlet and manually assembling the calls). The
throughput we need in production is likely to be far lower, but I did
not want this to become a bottleneck so did some benchmarking. I
expect it to migrate into our live system in the coming weeks/months.
