Actually Solr (SolrCloud to be precise) is very much part of the Bigdata management platform -- we're working on better integrating it with HDFS/MR: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SOLR-1301 and ingest points: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/FLUME-1687 Thanks, Roman.
