I see ALTER TABLE PAINTING ADD FOREIGN KEY (ID) REFERENCES ARTIST (ID). Do you have artist_id attribute (column) which is artist FK in PAINTING table? It seems you have id of PAINTING which is PK also as FK. Please check that.
