Thanks for the information Mark. The spring distribution that I downloaded ships with dependencies. One of them was commons-pool-1.5.4.jar. I later found some (related) known issues in this version and updated the JAR file in class path to 1.6.
But there is no 1.3 JAR in my application class path. Perhaps there is one in weblogic server path.
