Gotto learn how to do this properly. I added a .htaccess file to my
webserver documents directory that looks like:

        Options FollowSymLinks
        RewriteEngine On
        RewriteBase /
        
        RewriteRule cdb/(.*)    http://127.0.0.1:5984/$1 [P]

This allowed me to stick files in my regular localhost directory and
refer to couchdb as if it was in a sub-directory.

then
        http://localhost/project/cdb/

is equivalent to
        http://localhost:5984/

Crude but works for messing around on my machine locally.
