I suspect not. Although I have run:
sudo chown -R couchdb:couchdb /usr/local/var/lib/couchdb
should it be couchdb.couchdb rather than ':' ?
I usually use "." as the separator in this command line

To set it up initially I followed the "Creating a couchdb System
Account" instructions here:

This worked at the time. I guess now that I have upgraded I have lost
something along the way. The user still appears in my startup screen,
but perhaps something of it has become unstuck.
