Hi, #1 remove the update_notification section from the ini file. #2 nothing will happen until you query your fulltext view, just the same as couchdb views.
I'm working on packaging 0.5 for a release so I'll be ensuring that log output goes to a sensible location for most installations (from source, from .deb/.rpm, whatever) B.
