My bad didn't answer your 2nd question.
Assuming its on windows, to upgrade - uninstall existing build,
install new build over top. Always do a backup first but other than
that it should "just work".
Couchbase also do a commercial release& a community edition
http://www.couchbase.com/downloads
but its a custom roll& has geocouch + other bits in it. Mine are
humble Apache CouchDB no frills.
