Removing a bunch of old beam directories from /usr/lib/couchdb/erlang/lib fixed the problem.
cd /usr/lib/couchdb/erlang/lib rm -rf ibrowse-1.5.2/ rm -rf mochiweb-r113/ rm -rf couch-1.0.1/ No idea why these where lying around there though.
