It's possible that this got broken on trunk recently though this is the first such report and I don't think it's changed since the 1.1 release.
The precedence of response content-type changed between 1.0 and 1.1 but that doesn't seem to be your problem. With the information providing, I'd say you're genuinely passing the wrong username/password combination. B.
