No reference, just experience from my former jobs (comparing hdd's of 
the same type bought in the same time). Maybe the new hdd's are better 
from that point of view, I haven't tested on the new hdd's because such 
tests take a while.

Do you have a reference for this?  Drives are designed to be used 100% of
the time.
