Nearly ubiquitous, in my experience — almost every database I've seen (unless it explicitly stores only one type of document) has such a property. In fact I would say that it's a best practice to name this property "type" since that's the convention (I honestly can't recall seeing any db where it had a different name, though I'm sure they exist.) —Jens
