Thanks for reporting this Mark.

In every case I’ve seen of this the underlying issue is that the ntfs 8.3 
filename creation
has been disabled or is not supported on the volume’s file system. I’ve never 
managed to
re-create this on a fresh install of Windows in any release, although I’ve not 
tried 2012 R2
personally.

The quick solution is to install to an 8.3 compliant name, c:\couchdb or 
similar (no spaces)
and this should go away.
