Thanks Joan.

Firstly, doing all below on Couch 1.6.1.on Ubuntu 16.04:

Briefly, I have tried to follow any instructions I could find to get
geocouch.

I tried to follow the steps on the main site,
https://github.com/couchbase/geocouch,  but I fear I don't understand
everything there.

I have used: Jan's instructions in  https://gist.github.com/janl/5197524 ,
and specifically the comments by gr2m.
I found that the directories shown in these instructions, specifically:

COUCH_EBIN="/usr/local/lib/couchdb/erlang/lib/couch-1.2.1/ebin"
COUCH_INCLUDE="/usr/local/lib/couchdb/erlang/lib/couch-1.2.1/include"
COUCH_SCRIPT="/usr/local/share/couchdb/www/script"

(all three if I remember) did not correspond to my Ubuntu 16.04
installation of Couch.

Also 'couch_db.hrl' was not found.

I suspect these facts are probably to be expected as all systems will not
have the same Couch setup.(I used apt-get install couchdb if I remember)

I did try and fiddle with the directories but that was not going to work
anyway.

I see on this forum there are a number of questions and answers regarding
geocouch but most seem a few years old.

Windows:

Steps to follow?:

I could try these on Windows.
These instructions look very good

However, I have 1.6.1 and 2.0.0 already installed on Windows so likely this
will ding one of them.

I have backed up my data and INI's so I am very prepared to try these
instructions if they are still valid.

So assuming I wish to proceed on Windows, should I follow these
instructions?

Last comment:
Is this worth it? Is geocouch the real deal or will there be new options or
alternatives in the near future?
If no new alternatives coming soon I am keen to set geocouch up.
