The hangup is that Drill will take tens of milliseconds to plan the query and most queries of this sort only need to take less than a millisecond in the database itself. The power of Drill is wasted and you spend most of your time planning queries over and over. SQL products which are intended for transactional use avoid heavy planning since they are focussed on very simple queries. Such databases also allow query plans to be remembered (so-called prepared queries). That hasn't been the focus for Drill yet.
