I haven't had any problems with
tar xzf geronimo-tomcat6-javaee5-2.1.2.tar.gz
on mac osx. I wonder if we are assuming gnu tar which I think has slightly different properties than standard unix tar?

Hopefully someone else will know more...

In gunzip-ed the file. But when I un-tar-ed the tar file, I got an error:

A directory checksum error on media; 1 not equal to 32432.

Is the tar file correct at the source?
