Thank you! Once I changed up the properties file, it worked well. The interesting thing is that I originally had an error with the RMI port but the error message was much better. It basically said that the 1099 port was in use.

By default, Geronimo will use the following ports: Listening on Ports: 1050 0.0.0.0 CORBA Naming Service 1099 0.0.0.0 RMI Naming 1527 0.0.0.0 Derby Connector 2001 0.0.0.0 OpenEJB ORB Adapter 4201 0.0.0.0 OpenEJB Daemon 6882 0.0.0.0 OpenEJB ORB Adapter 8009 0.0.0.0 Tomcat Connector AJP AJP 8080 0.0.0.0 Tomcat Connector HTTP BIO HTTP 8443 0.0.0.0 Tomcat Connector HTTPS BIO HTTPS 9999 0.0.0.0 JMX Remoting Connector 61613 0.0.0.0 ActiveMQ Transport Connector 61616 0.0.0.0 ActiveMQ Transport Connector You can either stop (or reconfigure) the process on your system that is already using port 1050. Or, you can customize the Geronimo port numbers by editing the file var/config/config-substitutions.properties where you'll find hopefully helpful properties like: COSNamingPort=1050 NamingPort=1099 ... Would be nice if we could get more reasonable error messages for this type of issue -- even suggest on ways to fix the problem. Feel free to raise a Jira! --kevan
