I assume you've verified that port 1099 is not in use? Do you have IP v6 configured, by chance? Running with the following property might help -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true e.g.: $ GERONIMO_OPTS=-Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true ./geronimo.sh run ... Or altering your system v6 configuration. --kevan
