Because a Maven POM has lots of project related meta-data available, the Felix plugin needs almost no extra input in order to create a very detailed and useful manifest. Since Gradle has none of this extra meta-data, the OSGi plugin needs to be manually given all the data required.
Unless I have seriously misread the user manual -- which is admittedly somewhat thin regarding the OSGi plugin. Perhaps there are some small but useful examples somewhere showing that manual effort is not needed?
