I invented http://webtest.canoo.com , the first popular open-source testing tool for web applications back in 2001. Until then, I helped customers to develop test suites with up to 100'000 tests, being in use and maintained for over 10 years. I myself have written, executed, and maintained thousands of tests. I'm pretty confident that I can claim experience in this area. However, even if I would not have the least bit of experience, my arguments would still be equally valid.
