Better class loader isolation is very important but won't happen before 1.0.
Your code seems to make a lot of assumptions about Gradle's class loading, and I'm afraid Gradle doesn't provide that many guarantees. In particular, I'd try not to make any assumptions about which class path/configuration holds the plugin's classes.
