I tried that (well I had the common bits in gradle rather than buildSrc/gradle) and whilst that works for build.gradle, it did not work for buildSrc.gradle. At least symbols ostensibly (using Groovy thinking) put into the binding are not available in the buildSrc/build.gradle whereas they do appear to be available in build.gradle. I just tried to create a minimal project to post, and it works just fine in that. So there is something specific to the situation I had tried it previously that is failing. Thanks for confirming I was actually going down the right road. Back to investigation . . . . . . sometime later. OK, the problem was spelling errors that I have not spotted. Now I feel embarrassed. But at least it all works as required.
