There seems to be a failure to allow TestNG to catch the exception and
so complete the test successfully.  Given the unexpected nature of teh
exception as far as IDEA is concerned, it terminates the unit test run
-- but leaves the marker yellow and doesn't actually terminate.

Yep.  Which is moderately inconsistent with the above :-(

OK, I'll sign up and write something.  Though without a simpler test
case, it is going to be hard for JetBrains folk to really follow this
up.
