As far as I know, running Maven goals from Gradle similar to how one can run Ant targets from Gradle is on the roadmap for after 1.0 is out.
Today, I belive the best thing to do (besides rewriting the pom.xml in Gradle from scratch) is to run the one-time Maven-to-Gradle converter (can be found by searching this mailinglist).
