Under healthy network conditions, there will be messages going back and forth between the browser and the Guacamole server every second or so. If absolutely no messages are received by the browser within 15 seconds, the connection is presumed closed. The exact same timeout exists server-side to clean up resources in the case of disorderly connection shutdown or general network failures. - Mike
