I discovered the issue was due to group policy settings. This was preventing me 
from connecting. Thanks.

Ok As Mike mentions the OS may have the NTLM enabled, you can try to disable it 
to test.
If this still an issue and you are not logging in as the local/domain 
administrator add them the Trusted Remote Desktop Group.

Then test.

In the authentication section, I have the username, password and domain filled 
in.
Security mode is set to any and ignore server certificate is checked.
Disable authentication is unchecked.

Are you specifying the domain connection parameter as well as the username and 
password parameters?
