There's no reason to switch to Windows - there are plenty of good IDEs with
debuggers for Linux. Like NetBeans:

This is covered in the manual:

If you do this you'll also want to make sure that you've put some debug logging
into your custom extension, using org.slf4j.Logger and the "debug()" method.
This is used extensively throughout the Guacamole Client code, so you should be
able to find plenty of examples.
