Noticed that when users just idle on a RDP session credential screen that this too creates a session recording file which then is served under the history tab. However when opening to view these recordings they are 0s long and show nothing.

The lack of update to the playback timestamp for recordings with lengthy idle periods is a UI issue that has since been fixed on git:

https://github.com/apache/guacamole-client/pull/883
https://github.com/apache/guacamole-client/pull/891

See: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/GUACAMOLE-1803

The recordings are not 0s long - they would be as long as the user's session, though perhaps with some very long frames if the user is very idle.

Right now you essentially need to go through all of these sessions to see whether or not there is recording data in them as the “Duration” column is a non 0s value so you have no idea which has actual data in it. It would be nice if 0s recordings just didn’t create a recording file so the History tab would only create links for actual recordings.

It would be incorrect for Guacamole to choose to not record that a user is doing nothing. The recordings produced by Guacamole need to be fully accurate copies of exactly what happened within the session.

I've been toying with adding a histogram to the recording viewer so that it can be easily seen which parts of a recording have the most activity. That may help in your case.
