I'm pretty sure that's just the way it is designed to work - if only a single 
connection is available for a user that connection is automatically launched.  
You can do one of two things:
- Create a second connection
- Use the Ctrl-Alt-Shift key combo to get to the menu in the connection, then 
click on the option to take you back to Settings.
