Apologies for the late response. In hadoop-2 TeraSort uses the new org.apache.hadoop.mapreduce apis (not org.apache.hadoop.mapred).
Did you fiddle with the right TotalOrderPartitioner i.e. org.apache.hadoop.mapreduce.TotalOrderPartitioner?
