Todd Lipcon wrote in this article, http://www.cloudera.com/blog/2010/07/whats-new-in-cdh3-b2-hbase on Hbase and Hive that in the next release writes from hive back into hbase will be supported. Currently you can only use hbase as an input table. Does that mean an output writable for hbase is coming to hive rather than using a map/reduce to load up the resultset? This would be fantastic! I could not find a Jira ticket number to watch for this feature.
