Hi HBasers,
Just to inform you we are working at Apache James (Mail Server) on
porting our mailbox component [1] to HBase. We already support JPA, JCR
and Maildir implementations, and hopefully soon HBase.
The "we" is Ioan Eugen Stan as student and Robert and Robert Burrell
Donkin and I as co-mentors.
The JIRA is MAILBOX-44 and is still refers to Hadoop. The first idea was
to mimick out existing Maildir implementation and "simply" make it
distributed upon HDFS.
We recently came to the conclusion that HDFS was not suited for small
entities such as mails, and decided to go to HBase [2]
We don't have much to show for now and still in the "design" phase, but
"the sooner, the better" you know we are working on that.
Don't hesitate to come with any idea/advice/suggestion/question that
could help us.
