Maybe, depends on what you use Netezza for. The value of Netezza is that it is
a prepackaged commercial system. The advantage of open source NoSQL databases
is that you can match the tool to the task. And with a hadoop cluster, you
could conceivably run HBase, Hive, Pig, Solr, MongoDB, etc. all on the same set
of hardware to take advantage of each tools strengths. However, the
disadvantage of the open source approach is that it is not prepackaged, and it
requires significant expertise to get to a place where you can make a direct
comparison between a commercial product (Netezza, Aster data, green plum) and
your open source stack.

Maybe if you outlined a concrete use case people could make more intelligent
comments.

Subject: HBase as a replacement for Netezza?

By no means I am a Netezza expert, but my manager seems to believe that our
existing Netezza based system can be replaced with a NOSQL (Key/Value) type
of database. If anyone has done Netezza to HBase migration, please share
your experiences.

As always, greatly appreciate the help.
