though not much idea about zookeeper/region server nw,
But i tried a code snippet from
http://hbase.apache.org/apidocs/org/apache/hadoop/hbase/client/package-summary.html
&
it did worked for me. might help you.

just try this line
Configuration config = HBaseConfiguration.create();  //automatically
connect with default local config
remove this // *config.set("hbase.zookeeper.quorum",
"virtual-notebook-tosh"); *
