Thanks for the replies. I actually do not have the ability to guarantee how keys will be structured, I am working on our own corporate implementation which will be used by various teams per their needs. I think your answers gave me what I needed to know, I will have to require the user to specify start and end keys if they want to evenly pre-split their table on creation.
