THRIFT-1868 is only available in Thrift 0.9.2 and there is currently work in progress to update the thrift dependency in HBase (see HBASE-14045) which means that once it gets committed HBASE-7972 can be included into a next release of HBase (1.3 for now) you should be able to tune the TCP backlog.
