I have not tried this myself but my guess is that it the class-loaders will require all service classes to be located at the same level (for example shared/lib). And if I understand the Tomcat class loading pages correctly, the classes in the web app may still not be visible to the shared/lib class loader. Not much help I realize, but I would be curious about any progress you make.
