Is initial data compressed somehow? 

In general there is a capacity planning page [1] that describes how calculate 
approximate size that will be consumed by the grid.
I would suggest measure approximately the size of an object that is stored in 
the cache and apply this knowledge in the calculation like it’s done in [1].
