Windows 7 firewall… that is all I should have.

Not sure why but ping https://nexus.codehaus.org says it cannot find the host… 
but I can access from browser.

Can you please share your settings?

Just tested it and it works with mvn 3.0.x.

Are you behind a firewall? If so, you'll need to update the settings.xml with 
proxy details or to point to corporate repository manager.
