Yes, this manual covers main aspects of configuring JMeter for recording, 
recording and replaying.
You might need to make some extra actions if you want to implement some 
web-application logic (authorization, extracting parameters, flow control, data 
pools, etc).

One more question. You mentioned recording actual requests issued by the 
browser and replaying them.  Looking through the documentation I see this in 
the wiki under 'Recording Tests':
