You may already have a functional testing team. If you do, ask them to run their scripts while you are running the performance tests. Remember, their scripts are UX heavy, so you have to balance/re-work the load (between functional and performance) to make it work. Also, assist them to capture response times in their scripts (additional data points), if not doing so already.
This would give you a peek as to how the application fares (UI performance) amid API load. You achieve both the targets with a single solution. There are prerequisites though - Your API load tests and UX individually should have no major issues, else you would be scratching your head to pinpoint the root cause.
