Mhm... located the parts you've pasted in the usermanual. But it contains
the following sentence:
# Scroll down to the "Apache Karaf" section and select the desired
distribution.
For a source distribution, the filename will be similar to:
{{apache-karaf-x.y-src.zip}}.
Which contains the src folder and allows you to build Karaf with the right
pre-requisites (mvn 2.2.x and java5 for karaf 2.2.x; mvn 3.x and java6 for
the trunk)
