OpenJPA 2.2.x doesn't support Java 8 and JPA 2.1: it's still Java 7 and
JPA 2.0.
Java 8 should work, but not 100% guarantee.

Karaf 3 OpenJPA feauture doesn't require Java 7. But Karaf 4 do.
I know that the feature resolver was changed.
But I have successfully run OpenJPA application on Karaf 3 and Java 8.
