PaxOsgi Appender

Hi everyone,
we are using Karaf with Log4j2. But we are wondering, what the <PaxOsgi ...> 
appender does. I cannot find any documentation on this. You can find it here in 
the example: https://karaf.apache.org/manual/latest/#_log4j_v2_support Can 
anyone help me out, what this thing does?
