The auto refreshing job progress is a new feature in 1.6. Earlier version won't auto refresh. Maybe wipe out browser cache and try again?
The 1.6 metadata is compatible with previous version. The upgrade shall be pretty straightforward. But you are right. It deserves a document. @Shaofeng, consider an upgrade guide next time.
