lenya 1.2.3 + Unizh operating environment

I hate feeling like a n00b

I posted a message earlier about having problems compiling the Unizh samples. Not one response. This usually means I'm doing something REALLY wrong.

What I want to know is, what is the ideal compiling/running environment for the Unizh samples and for Lenya 1.2.3

I have Lenya 1.2.3 running on Ubuntu 5.04 (JDK 1.5.0_03) and 1.2.2 on Debian Sarge (JDK 1.4.2_08). The Unizh samples don't work on either machine.

Is there anything special I need to do with Cocoon/Lenya/Apache/JDK in order to get the Unizh samples working?  (apart from following install from src instructions and following http://wiki.apache.org/lenya/DeployPublicationHowTo
